WT Woodson Chorus

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may the God that loves us all hold you in the palm of his hand. Amen.

Fundraising (last updated - 2/16/2010)
Throughout the year several fundraisers are sponsored by the Choral Boosters not only to support the entire Choral Program (General Fundraisers), but to provide others to help parents to defray the cost of the Spring Trip. Our treasurer keeps track of those fundraisers that get credited to your student’s individual account. PLEASE NOTE that we have undertaken several fund raisers to allow YOU to pick the ones you wish to participate in …which will allow you to reduce the amount you will be required to pay for the Spring Trip.

There is no monetary credit limit that you can earn through these fundraisers. If you raise more than you need for this year, it can be carried over to next year. This money cannot be refunded to you as you can’t earn money for personal gain. However, at any time you may donate to another student’s account.

Spring Trip Fundraising
The cost of the Spring Trip can be greatly reduced by participating in any or all of the fundraisers. If you prefer to make the scheduled payments totally out-of-pocket that is your option. However, we offer a variety of fundraisers, listed below, to assist you in supplementing the cost. Each fundraiser is reported directly to the Trip Treasurer who posts it to the individual student accounts. The Trip Treasurer is responsible for keeping an individual record of fundraising earnings from each of your students. Statements are sent out regularly or as needed.

All first trip installment payments are required by each family, regardless of your student’s account balance. When the final trip payment is due – if you have “over-fund-raised”, you will be written a refund check only up to the amount that parents paid in. (e.g., if cost of trip $375 – parent paid in $200, fund-raiser credit $200, parent would be refunded $25 or the amount can be rolled over for the next year). Any fund-raising done after the final payment due date will be carried over to your student’s account for the following year.

If your student is a senior, the balance will roll-over to a sibling entering the choral program the upcoming fall. Otherwise, according to the by-laws, it would be transferred to the General Fund.

Personal Fundraising
You can use the following fundraisers to supplement a student’s personal account. Proceeds for these fund-raisers go directly to the student’s trip fund:

These fundraisers are only available when a volunteer is available to coordinate them. Each year different fundraisers occur depending on interest and staffing. If you have an interest in coordinating a fundraiser, contact the Board. We are always open to new ideas once they have been approved. Clicking on the titles of the fundraisers below will allow you to e-mail the respective committee chairs for further information or to volunteer your assistance.

Fall Fundraisers
Entertainment Books - It's SO easy to pay for your student's trip....without spending a dime! WTW Choral Boosters are again selling Entertainment Books, those wonderful little gems of money saving certificates that generally pay for themselves in the first couple of uses! The books earn $10.00 each.

Frozen Baked Goods - In November, choral students will be able to sell high-quality frozen baked goods and cookie dough. We are offering this fundraiser for the second year because of the very positive comments we received about the quality of the products. In other words, they were yummy! We will be sending out more information about this fundraiser as we get closer to November.

Year Round Fundraisers

Grocery Store Scrip - Purchase the normal items that you use every day at Shoppers and Giant and earn money for your student's personal trip fund. The money you earn through these programs helps to defray the cost of your student's Spring Trip. Grocery Store Scrip is only sold by Nauecho at monthly chorus booster meetings. She is also willing to pick up Scrip from the PTSA orders that you make and will deliver them to you at the monthly chorus meetings.  You may also purchase grocery scrip through Great Lakes Scrip, see below.

Great Lakes Scrip - is a fundraising program that enables you to purchase gift cards to a variety of vendors and have a portion of the cost "rebated" to your child's trip account. For example, if you buy $50 of Wendy's gift cards, $4.50 (9%) is credited to your child's account. Each vendor rebates different amounts. Vendors include popular restaurants among which are Outback, Macaroni Grill, and Pizzeria Uno's; stores such as Old Navy, Kohl's, and Bed, Bath and Beyond; fast food vendors including Wendy's, Starbucks and Subway; gas companies, food stores, hotels, and airlines. You may also purchase Giant and Safeway grocery scrip, but not Shoppers Food Warehouse, through the GLScrip program. Since your check is immediately deposited to the Choral Booster account, your student's trip account is credited within 2-3 days after placing your order. Purchasing grocery scrip through the PTSO program is certainly convenient and your account will get credited, just not as quickly. Visit www.glscrip.com for a full vendor listing. Donna Cipicchio, the scrip coordinator, will collect orders at monthly booster meetings (more frequently during the holiday season) and orders are usually placed the following day. Orders may also be mailed to or dropped off at 3823 Glenbrook Rd, Fairfax, VA 22031 where there is a drop box on the screened porch. You may also e-mail orders to Donna Cipicchio, but these orders will not be placed until payment has been received.  GLScrip usually returns an order in 5-7 business days. Gift cards may be picked up at the above address or during the following booster meeting. Click here for detailed instructions on how to complete the Great Lakes Scrip order form.

Car Wash - Watch for car wash dates in the future...

Cartridge Recycling for $$$$$ - The Choral Boosters are continuing the printer cartridge recycling program through "RecycleForTheStudents". Our organization receives $1.00 for every usable, undamaged ink jet, laser printer, or fax cartridge that is brought to the recycling location at the back of the Chorus room. Small cartridges should be placed in a ziploc bag labeled with the student's name, and placed in the recycling box. Larger items should be repacked in the manufacturer's packing if available, and the outer box labeled with the student's name, and placed beside the large recycling bin. Students earn one merit point per cartridge donated, regardless of size, for up to a maximum of 15 merit points per school. Additionally, ink toner bottles and cell phones may also be brought to the recycling collection area. No money is earned by the Boosters for toner bottles or cell phones, nor do students earn merit points, but the items will be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner by the collection company.  For a large recycling box and for scheduling pickups at your own office, call 703-684-9304.

TAG Day- Tag Day takes place in October each year. Volunteer to drive students, prepare and serve food and much more. This is the largest fund raiser that the chorus has and 100% of the proceeds go to directly to the chorus.
